Youth Advisory Council: Making an Impact in the Community This February
The Keweenaw Community Foundation’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) has been spreading kindness and making a difference in the community throughout February! From delivering handmade Valentine's gifts to volunteering at local events, these young leaders are showing the power of youth engagement in the Keweenaw.
Sharing Love on Valentine’s Day
On February 12th, YAC members visited residents at The Bluffs Senior Community and Canal View with a heartwarming surprise—230 flowers and handmade Valentine’s cards! Seeing the residents' faces light up was a powerful reminder of how small gestures of kindness can make a big impact. The students wanted to ensure that every resident felt remembered and loved on Valentine’s Day, and their efforts truly brightened the day for many. Thank you to Marketplace Foods for providing the flowers.
Supporting Local Events
On February 15th, YAC volunteered with Visit Keweenaw to assist at Jibba Jabba 2025, an exciting pro snowboard event that brings athletes and spectators together for an unforgettable winter experience. Volunteering at community events like this not only helps support local tourism but also gives students hands-on experience in event coordination and teamwork.
Upcoming: Mental Health Fair Volunteering
Next, on February 22nd, YAC members will volunteer at the KS4HM Mental Health Fair at the Little Gem Community Center in Lake Linden. This important event, organized by Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds (KS4HM), focuses on mental health awareness and community resources. Our YAC members are eager to contribute and help promote mental well-being in the Keweenaw.
