Scholarship Funds Available for Youth Hockey and Figure Skating
AUGUST 15, 2023 HANCOCK, MI — New scholarship funds available for local students! Announced as a new fund in June, the Ken "Bergy" Liimatta Hockey Scholarship fund aims to provide children in the Calumet-Laurium-Keweenaw (CLK) region with the opportunity to learn how to skate or participate in the hockey club, regardless of their financial situation.
Ken "Bergy" Liimatta grew up in Calumet and spoke highly of the skills he learned in hockey: communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, preparation, goal setting, knowing the role you need to play so the team can succeed, and the ability to take and apply feedback. Bergy also expressed his gratitude towards the CLK community volunteers who dedicated their time to helping the kids, including coaches, referees, concession stand volunteers, and parents who drove the kids to their games.
This fund supports local families, allowing children to engage in their interests and passions. More children can have the opportunity to be like "Bergy," and learn important skills too!
