Recap of KCF’s Education and Networking Series Session 2: Finding Grant Opportunities and Supportive Data

Keweenaw Community Foundation’s hosts the grant workshop, Finding Grant Opportunities and Supportive Data, in their new office location in downtown Hancock.

On August 6th, the Keweenaw Community Foundation (KCF) hosted the second session of its Education and Networking Series, "Finding Grant Opportunities and Supportive Data.” This interactive learning session was led by two distinguished experts: Dory Shaffer, a research, education, and outreach librarian at Michigan Tech University, and Linda Remsburg, an associate at Grow and Lead: Community and Youth Development (GLCYD). Their combined expertise gave attendees valuable insights and practical skills for identifying grant opportunities and sourcing supportive data to strengthen their grant proposals.

Dory guided participants through advanced online searching techniques, essential for finding relevant grants and gathering the necessary data to build a compelling case for support. Dory demonstrated how to search for grants online using various research tools, ensuring that attendees could apply these techniques effectively in their work.

A diverse group of people representing various local nonprofits attended the session. This turnout underscored the community’s strong interest in enhancing their grant-seeking capabilities and securing funding for their initiatives.

Here is the presentation recording. Here are the presentation slides.

This workshop was free to the public, made possible by the Keweenaw Community Foundation’s sponsorship.

The next session in KCF’s Education and Networking Series will take place in November or December and will focus on writing certain parts of a grant proposal. This upcoming workshop will build on the skills developed in previous sessions and will provide further support and guidance to the community.
