KCF Announces the Mildred "Millie" Pyorala Scholarship
The Keweenaw Community Foundation is excited to announce the establishment of the Mildred "Millie" Pyorala Scholarship, created to honor the legacy of a beloved educator and community advocate, Mildred Pyorala. This endowed scholarship fund will provide annual awards to graduating seniors from Chassell High School, with a preference for students pursuing degrees in education.
Mildred “Millie” Pyorala devoted over 30 years to teaching at Chassell High School, inspiring countless students with her dedication and passion for learning. Her decision to establish this fund reflects her unwavering commitment to education and community.
The scholarship will award $2,000 annually to one eligible graduating senior. Preference will be given to students intending to pursue careers in teaching or education, though other fields of study will be considered if there are no qualifying applicants. The first scholarship will be awarded in Spring 2025, with the application period opening on February 1, 2025, and closing on March 16, 2025. Students interested in applying can find more information online.
“Millie’s generosity and unwavering dedication to her community are truly inspiring,” said Vienna Leonarduzzi, Director of Development and Communications at the Keweenaw Community Foundation. “Chassell is one of the smallest schools in our region, yet Millie’s commitment to its students, even decades after her retirement, reflects her deep belief in the power of education. Her legacy will open doors for young people to succeed and thrive, honoring the values she championed throughout her life.”
