KCF Launches Spring 2025 Grants and Scholarships: Empowering Local Communities and Students
KCF is excited to announce the opening of its Spring 2025 Field of Interest Grants and Scholarships applications. These programs allow local nonprofits and students to secure funding for community projects and educational pursuits. Applications for both programs will be accepted online beginning February 1, 2025, with a submission deadline of March 16, 2025, at 11:30 PM EST. Grant and scholarship recipients will be announced in May 2025. Grant Opportunities
The Field of Interest grant program, offered twice annually, is made possible by KCF’s Field of Interest Funds and reflects the passions and priorities of donors who established them. These funds are designed to address specific causes, populations, or geographic areas, creating meaningful change throughout the region. CLK Youth Hockey Fund
Supports youth hockey programs in the Calumet, Laurium, and Keweenaw areas. (up to $3,000 available)
David Wiitanen and Slim McLean Memorial Youth Hockey Fund
Awards grants to organizations supporting youth hockey in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties. (up to $5,000 available)
Great Start Early Childhood Fund
Supports projects enhancing early childhood care and education in Baraga, Houghton, and Keweenaw Counties. Areas of focus include family engagement, social-emotional health, and school readiness. (up to $2,000 available)
Joe Freed Empowerment Fund
Supports efforts to empower individuals with mental, intellectual, or developmental disabilities in the Copper Country region. Projects with a community-wide impact will receive priority. (up to $5,000 available)
Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund
Funds new or existing programs that benefit youth in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties. (up to $12,000 available)
Eligibility
Nonprofits with 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status, educational institutions, governmental entities, and religious organizations are encouraged to apply. Projects must support Keweenaw and Houghton Counties (unless specified) and adhere to KCF’s Non-discrimination Policy.
Scholarship Opportunities
KCF offers scholarships for graduating high school seniors, current college students, and adults pursuing continuing their education. These scholarships are made possible through the generosity of donors committed to supporting the educational aspirations of local students. Chassell High School Students

Eligibility: Graduating seniors from Chassell High School
Award: $2,000
Description: Available to graduating seniors from Chassell High School. Preference is given to students pursuing degrees in education, though other fields of study will be considered.
CTE Course Participants

Eligibility: Students entering post-secondary schools in trades; must have taken at least one CTE course in high school
Award: $2,000
Description: Available to students entering post-secondary schools offering fields of study such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, secretarial, automotive services, or other trades.
Copper Country Suzuki Association Members

Eligibility: Elementary and middle school students who are members of the Copper Country Suzuki Association or participate in Suzuki string programs
Award: 5 scholarships, $500 each
Description: Available to elementary and middle school students who are members of the Copper Country Suzuki Association or participate in Suzuki string instrument programs.
Faith Lutheran Church Members (Calumet)

Eligibility: Preference for members of Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet; entering seminary preferred
Award: Up to $6,000
Description: Preference is given to members of Faith Lutheran Church in Calumet and those entering the seminary. Eligibility is based on academic performance, leadership potential, community involvement, and financial need.
Hancock, Houghton, Calumet, Baraga, or L’Anse Schools

Eligibility: Seniors who participated in high school golf and plan to continue their education
Award: $1,500
Description: Available to seniors at Hancock, Houghton, Calumet, Baraga, or L’Anse schools who have participated in high school golf and plan to continue their education after high school.
HOUGHTON HIGH SCHOOL

Eligibility: Houghton High School seniors or alumni
Award: Up to $6,000
Description: Available to Houghton High School seniors or alumni who demonstrate character, financial need, and determination to achieve their educational or training goals.

Eligibility: Houghton High School seniors
Award: Up to $2,000
Description: Awarded to seniors at Houghton High School who share the mission of Kiwanis – dedicated to changing the world, one child and one community at a time.

Eligibility: Houghton High School seniors
Award: Up to $3,000
Description: This scholarship is awarded to Houghton High School seniors who demonstrate the aptitude, motivation, and resolve necessary to continue education or training beyond high school.

Eligibility: Outstanding graduates of Houghton-Portage High School
Award: Up to $6,000
Description: Available to outstanding graduates of Houghton-Portage High School who have distinguished themselves academically and in extracurricular activities.
Houghton County and Keweenaw County student Residents

Eligibility: High school graduates from schools in Houghton or Keweenaw Counties
Award: Up to $2,500
Description: Available to high school graduates from schools in Houghton County or Keweenaw County pursuing a degree at an accredited college, university, or trade school.
Keweenaw County student Residents

Eligibility: Keweenaw County residents of any age pursuing higher education
Award: Up to $1,000
Description: Available only to Keweenaw County residents (of any age) who are pursuing higher education.
Keweenaw Bay Indian Community Members

Eligibility: Members or descendants of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community pursuing degrees in Liberal Studies or Anishinaabe Studies at Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College
Award: $250
Description: Available to members of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community or their descendants to pursue a degree in Liberal Studies or Anishinaabe Studies at Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College.
Michigan Technological University Students

Eligibility: Michigan Technological University students majoring in Environmental Engineering or Management Information Systems; must be Junior class or above by the next fall semester
Award: Up to $3,000
Description: This scholarship is available to students currently enrolled at Michigan Technological University with a preference for those majoring in Environmental Engineering or Management Information Systems.
St. Ignatius Catholic Church Parish Members

Eligibility: Female high school graduating seniors who are members of St. Ignatius Catholic Church parish
Award: $2,000
Description: Available to female high school graduating seniors who are members of the St. Ignatius Catholic Church parish and are seeking to further their education at a college or trade school.
