July Heartlands Project Updates From TNC

Love the Heartlands

As we work our way towards local governance and management of roughly two-thirds of the Keweenaw Heartlands, The Nature Conservancy has been working closely with local and regional community members to determine how they want to talk about the Heartlands forest. These community members came up with three key messages to inform and build support within the broader community, and we want to be sure this messaging makes sense and feels right to you.

To do that, we are asking for your feedback on the words and phrasings we intend to use. We request five minutes of your time to review those messages with this brief survey.  Let us know what makes sense and what does not, and feel free to suggest your ideas too!

The survey is open now and will close on Wednesday, July 31.

Summer and Fall ♥ the Heartlands Series

In the coming months, you’ll see The Nature Conservancy and several of our community partners out and about in the community talking about the Heartlands forest with our ♥ the Heartlands Series. There will be multiple opportunities for you to learn about, see, and experience the Heartlands, and we’ll be announcing these exciting events soon.

In the meantime, you can find us, along with our friends at the Keweenaw Community Foundation, at the Copper Shores Community-wide Picnic on Sunday, July 28 from noon to 3 p.m. We’ll also be at the Grant Township Hall on Aug 21 at 6:30 p.m. for our next Heartlands Update. At that update, TNC and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources will both provide the latest information on the Heartlands project.

There will be many other opportunities to ♥ the Heartlands throughout the summer and into the fall. Stay tuned for more announcements!
