Winks would never call himself a philanthropist or even a generous man. For him, giving back wasn’t a choice—it was a responsibility rooted in his upbringing and the values instilled by his parents. Whether it was supporting organizations meeting urgent needs like food assistance or championing efforts that address root causes like housing, education, and the environment, he believed in making a difference for ‘the least of our brothers and sisters.’ Winks’ legacy of giving continues through this fund, honoring his vision to support the Keweenaw and adapt to the needs of its communities, now and for future generations.
