Announcing Spring Grant Recipients!

 

HANCOCK, Michigan, May 15, 2024 - Keweenaw Community Foundation is pleased to announce Spring 2024 grant awards! The Kellogg Youth Fund supports programs and projects related to youth in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties. The Youth Advisory Council at the Foundation, a group of local students interested in leadership and philanthropy reviewed two dozen proposals this spring and recommended fourteen to receive funding!

  • Ahmeek Village Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department for playground equipment at Gabriel Chopp Park. 

  • Big Annie Statue Fund (Special Project Fund of Keweenaw Community Foundation) for the Junior Team Annie history service project. 

  • Bridging Gaps Childcare to expand its facilities and provide new cubbies and cots to increase capacity due to recent enrollment.

  • CCISD Equipment Loans of the Keweenaw for adaptive hiking equipment that will be free for families to use at local trail systems.

  • Copper Country Angel Mission to support their annual backpack program.

  • Copper Country Suzuki Association to offset participation costs for the Summer Music Ensemble Camp.

  • Copper Harbor Trails Society, Inc. for their Singletrack Flyers Program to help purchase walkie-talkies and other trail safety equipment.

  • Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes to provide financial assistance with startup costs for local troops.

  • Keweenaw Family Resource Center to support its Dad’s Parenting Toolbox, a program for local dads to connect with other dads (and other father figures) to discuss parenting. 

  • Lake Linden Hubbell Robotics Team to upgrade equipment and purchase new materials.

  • Pine Mountain Music Festival to support their annual free Children’s Classical Music Concerts. 

  • Rabbit Island Foundation to support the transportation costs for Rabbit Island School 2024, an immersive wilderness art experience for local students.

  • Simple Kindness For Youth, Inc., to support its mission of providing young people with the means to access basic needs, educational activities, and community participation through small grants, helping to build and maintain their self-esteem.

  • Village of Laurium for Assistive Skate Aids, to purchase adaptive skate aids to allow older persons or those with physical disabilities to enjoy ice skating safely.
