Ahmeek Ice Rink Boards Installed Ahead of Schedule
We are thrilled to announce that the new boards for the Ahmeek Ice Rink have been successfully installed! This achievement marks the culmination of months of fundraising $100,000 and community support, ensuring that our beloved Emil Aho Memorial Ice Rink remains safe and functional for years to come.
“When the Calumet Colosseum replaced their boards a few years ago, they used Becker Arena Products (BAP), and I was impressed by the quality of their product,” stated John Cima, Ahmeek Ice Rink volunteer. “When we started discussing replacing the boards at Ahmeek, I contacted BAP, and they sent me a quote on their outdoor boards. I knew we needed a top-quality product to withstand the brutal Keweenaw winters, and I was confident that BAP could provide that after seeing the boards at the Colosseum,” stated John Cima.
The installation was completed ahead of schedule, just in time for the upcoming winter season. BAP sent one person to lead a group of volunteers to install the boards. “A group of 8-10 volunteers were guided by the BAP representative during the week of June 17th, and we completed the installation of the boards. All of the volunteers were impressed by the ease of installation and the quality of the finished product, and the BAP representative was impressed by the capable group of volunteers. With proper maintenance, the new boards should last for decades,” stated John Cima.
Thank you once again to all who contributed. We look forward to seeing you on the ice!
