Promoting, Encouraging, and Sustaining Genealogy

The purpose of the Richard and June Ross Genealogy Fund is to promote, encourage and sustain the research, documentation and preservation of genealogy and history of the Keweenaw Area of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.

The Houghton–Keweenaw County Genealogical Society exists to educate and support our members in their research and the preservation of family histories. Our goal is to foster interest in local area history and genealogy, provide instruction in research techniques, and preserve information for use by future generations.

Richard Albert Ross was born on August 30, 1920, in Racine, Wisconsin. He graduated from Hyde Park High School in Chicago, Illinois, in 1938. Richard, who was known as “Dick” to his friends, served as a Warrant Officer in the US Army during World War II.

Richard and June met in California, where Richard started working for the California State Department of Employment in 1941. They were married in 1947. Richard retired in 1975. In 1977, Richard and June began the genealogical research that became their life’s work and their lasting legacy.
