New Fund Benefitting Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds

Uplifting and supportive messages from Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds

The Keweenaw Community Foundation would like to announce the creation of a new unendowed fund that will benefit the Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds group and its initiatives as they advance their mission in our community.

Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds (KS4HM) is a local group dedicated to talking more openly about mental health, building a resilient community, and supporting at-risk individuals. They meet monthly at the Portage Lake District Library - all community members are welcome to attend!

“We are excited to be able to provide fiscal sponsorship support for the work that Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds is doing in our community. We worked closely with them to put on their first youth mental health fair, which was a great success and something we hope to see continue. We are grateful to the volunteers who devote their time, experience, and passion to our community through education, awareness, advocacy, and support. We hope by establishing this fund, we can encourage community giving to this area of need,” noted Keweenaw Community Foundation Executive Director, Robin Meneguzzo.

The group has held several community events working toward their mission, including the Be Kind to Your Mind! Youth Fair in January of 2024 which provided local youth ages 12-19 with the opportunity to engage in activities that benefitted emotional and mental well-being. KS4HM is also in the process of planning a run/walk fundraiser to bolster additional community support in the upcoming months.

"Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds is grateful for this support from the Keweenaw Community Foundation. Having a fund available will allow donors from the community to contribute financially to our efforts to reduce stigma and educate the public about mental health and substance use. The funds will be used to compensate speakers, purchase supplies that help with self-care, and pay for venues where we can reach the most people with our message," says Michelle Morgan, KS4HM volunteer.

The Foundation hopes that this fund will continue to expand mental health support outreach and opportunities within our community for years to come. If you are interested in learning more about the fund or donating, please visit: www.keweenawgives.org/keweenaw-support-4-healthy-minds
