Seasonal Reminders

As we move from hunting season into snowmobiling season, we encourage you to enjoy the Heartlands, stay on the trails, be safe, and have fun. As a reminder, TNC asks residents who use the Heartlands roads and trails throughout the fall and winter to follow “Leave No Trace” principles, which include taking out whatever you bring into the Heartlands. Camping is not allowed on any TNC-owned land, and neither are fires. Hunters are also prohibited from setting up permanent deer blinds. Vehicles and snowmobiles should remain on designated trails.

DNR General Management Plan Update

Thank you to the community members who attended the recent meetings held by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to gather input for the general management plan for the Keweenaw Point state lands. If you weren’t able to join, the online public input survey is still available through November 24th: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/keweenawpoint

Thank you for your valuable feedback!

Information about the general management plan process for both Fort Wilkins Historic State Park and Keweenaw Point state lands is available online: michigan.gov/parkmanagementplans.
