Fostering an Environment where the Arts and People Grow Together
The Copper Country Community Arts Center (CCCAC) strives to integrate the arts into the fabric of everyday life.
Since its inception, the CCCAC has grown from a group of people that cultivated artistic exchange to a multifaceted arts organization that owns and operates an arts center with a large Artists Market sales gallery representing more than 200 local and regional artists, Kerredge Exhibition Gallery, Youth Gallery, classroom, darkroom, clay cooperative studio, and letterpress studio.
The CCCAC provides opportunities for residents and visitors of all ages to experience art and art making. CCCAC activities include annual events and programs such as the Poor Artists Sale, Houghton Spring Art and Music Festival, two week-long Summer Arts Camps, a week long Book Arts Camp.

The CCCAC provides professional development for artists, college internships, holds lectures/workshops with visiting artists, gallery talks, critiques, and tours for schools and community groups. The CCCAC is also the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs regional re-granting agency for the Western Upper Peninsula.
The Poor Artists Sale, a CCCAC event and annual juried art fair, was established in 1976.

“I am really proud of our long history in this community: the Arts Council was established in 1972, our Summer Arts Camp began in 1985 and we have had a solid presence in downtown Hancock since the Community Arts Center opened in 1992. We are continually developing opportunities for people of all ages to engage in and learn about art and to experience, understand, and celebrate the importance of creativity.”
