Don’t Do It Yourself (D.D.I.Y.) Endowment Opened with Keweenaw Community Foundation

Goal is to Maintain a Sustainable Operating Organization for Good, Forever

September 12, 2016

Hancock, Michigan—Through the generosity of the Coca Cola Foundation and the Hancock Coca Cola Bottling Company, the Keweenaw Community Foundation (KCF) has established an endowment with the Don’t Do It Yourself (D.D.I.Y.) organization in order to create a sustainable source of income for providing assistance during medical crises.

D.D.I.Y. serves as an emergency funding source for residents of Houghton and Keweenaw counties that are facing a financial hardship due to a medical emergency or crisis. DDIY helps offset travel expenses for people that do not have travel reimbursement opportunities, helps where the greatest need might be for individuals that do not qualify for low income assistance, and networks and collaborates with other organizations.

Kristina Coon, President of D.D.I.Y., said, “Sometimes people need someone to be there. Not to fix anything but to know that they have support and are cared for in the hardest of times.  Because of the gift from the Coca Cola Foundation and Hancock Coca Cola Bottling Company, we will continue to fill a void in our community long after we leave this earth.”

Jim Vivian, Executive Director of KCF, said, “We’re here to help and support D.D.I.Y. continue to make a positive impact in the community by providing help to families during stressful and financially challenging times.”

Tax deductible contributions may be made to the D.D.I.Y. endowment online at www.keweenawgives.org.  All contributions to a permanent endowment of KCF qualify for a Federal Tax Credit. To learn more about D.D.I.Y. or to request assistance, please visit their website at www.ddiyup.org.
